I’m a Facebook Fan, in fact, I’m a social media fan and it doesn’t matter if it’s a popular service or obscure. I probably have an account there. Admittedly there are many flaws in social media; there’s the good, the great, and the ugly, but it’s the same with everything else. I prefer to use social media for all the good qualities it adds to our world. Social media is thousands of years old. When Moses carved the 10 commandments in stone, it was a medium of that time, but those words ‘Thou shalt not …’ are still being spread today. Another form of social media was exemplified way back in Psalm 89:1 “I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.”
This time of year we all look back on time that’s passed and the changes that have transformed children into adults. We ask where has the time gone? When did the seven-year old with missing teeth become old enough to drive and hold down a job? The time passes quickly and we hope that the values we’ve shared with children and grandchildren will be the values they take with them. I have no words of wisdom, but the instruction manual for all of life has volumes. Proverbs is one source, but I like this reminder from 1 Chronicles 28:8 “And now, in this public place, all Israel looking on and God listening in, as God’s people, obey and study every last one of the commandments of your God so that you can make the most of living in this good land and pass it on intact to your children, insuring a good future.
On June 29th, Tyler’s parents and we, his grandparents are celebrating his graduation from high school and his future. He’s chosen to enlist in the Marine Corp for 5 years. Where has the time gone?
1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” In the days ahead there are countless opportunities to build up and encourage one another. One way is to attend open houses of graduates. Parents and grandparents are proud of the milestone in a young life. They are celebrating together, but even in times of celebration encouragement is needed.
