Significant!

Text from a friend yesterday afternoon:  Was your day better today?
Reply text to my friend:  Yes. Thank you. Someone even said they are glad I’m there.
Text back to me:  YAY!
Insignificant conversation? Look again. Bundled up in three lines of text are the hidden words “I care” and “Thank you for caring” which are not insignificant at all.
If you stopped by to read yesterday you might recall how the day started “…..”I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.”  Psalm 59:16  So how did the day go? There was no big revelation, nothing that shot through the day exploding with fanfare and excitement.  But here’s what did happen.
Out of nowhere, a Facebook friend whom I’ve never met said she would pray for God to direct my steps. Jeremiah the prophet prayed that for others in Jeremiah 10:23 “Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.”  Significant!
I heard that our intern was stressed out over her presentation on the result of her summer project. I took a piece of stationery from my desk, wrote her an encouraging message and tucked a $5 gift certificate to a cafeteria inside and put it on her desk. Very small gesture on my part but her message to me later in the day. “Thank you. Seriously. You made my day.” Significant!
Someone at work whom I have met only once emailed me some information at the bottom of the email were the words “I’m glad you’re here.” Significant!
Proverbs 17:17 says “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”  In that simple phrase is the significant value of steadfast friendship and holding each other up when the world is crushing down on us. Someone once said friendship divides our sorrow and multiplies our joy.
Let’s practice Isaiah 55:12 today “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
A few words, a tiny gift, a small gesture.  Maximize the minimum.  Make someone’s day and it will make yours.  Let’s get out there!
