Life is tough – Pray hard

Today writing is difficult. I admit the tragedy in Connecticut yesterday is suffocating my ability to just move on, like it doesn’t affect me. The massacre of children and adults, in a community like ours isn’t an insignificant circumstance that hits the news today and fades into obsolescence tomorrow like the ending of a bad movie. This is real life and I can’t get past the same questions you have, that millions of other people have.  Where was God in all this? Why did He let that crazed kid shoot his own mother in the face, then go to a school and mow down 27 other innocent people? How can this be good? Silence…  We will never know why. We can speculate on the motives of the masochist, but why does it matter? The fact is, evil was in his heart and it occupied every emotion until it grew into raging insanity.  There is evil in this world. The families of the victims are devastated. They have to face the empty spaces once occupied by the child or adult they loved. They will gather the remnants of their life and go on. How can this be good? There is no acceptable answer to that question. None that satisfies our craving to go back to the day before and beg God for a do-over. We are a shattered nation today because of this evil that has affected all of us.
Whether good or evil, what we have inside manifests itself on the outside.  Proverbs 12:20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy. Proverbs 14:22 Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.
If you love someone, pursue them. Give them your time. Pay attention. Listen to what they are saying to you. Be an opportunist. Ephesians 5:16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Romans 12:9  Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. If you get the inside right, the outside will take care of itself.  Tim and I were praying together this morning both of us asking God to be real to everyone who needs His presence today, and who need the touch of the Master’s hand. Friends, life is tough, pray hard.
