Advent Theme: Hope – When it's dark, there's something about the light.

Nght in Bethlemen 2012 93There’s something about light. Imagine a world where there was nothing but darkness all the time. Imagine weeks of cloudy, dreary days. Imagine days when we spend more hours in the dark than we do in the light. Some of us drive to work in the dark and on the way home – yep! It’s dark again.  No wonder we crave the light. We are energized by sunshine, even in the depths of winter. When the sun shines, our mood shines right along with it. What’s the first thing we do when we walk into a dark room – we turn on a light. What do we gravitate toward when we enter a room with glowing fireplace? We get close to it and feel its warmth, but we were first drawn to its light.
The scripture reading for advent today is one of my favorites. It talks about the genuine light of the world. Read it with me.
December 11, 2015 Advent theme: Hope
The Advent scripture for today is  John 1: 1-8
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John.  He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
